If you’re planning to stay in Turkey for more than 90 days, you need to apply for a residency card (Kimlik). This card identifies you as a foreigner living in Turkey. The Letters on Your Turkish Residency Card
Every foreigner who has a Turkish residency card has a series of letters on the back of their card. These letters indicate the type of residency they applied for. There are seven different letters, and each foreigner has a different combination of letters depending on their residency request.
The Letter A
If you’re in Turkey for scientific research and applied for residency, the letter A will be on the back of your card.
The Letter B
If you bought real estate in Turkey and have a property, the letter B will be on the back of your card.
The Letter Ç
If you applied for residency to attend training courses, the letter Ç will be on the back of your card.
The Letter D
If you’re in Turkey to continue your studies and applied for student residency, the letter D will be on the back of your card.
The Letter E
If you applied for tourist residency (residency by renting property) and plan to stay for a short time, the letter E will be on the back of your card.
The Letter F
If you’re in Turkey for medical treatment and applied for medical residency, the letter F will be on the back of your card.
The Letter J
If you obtained residency through investment, the letter J will be on the back of your card.
